Art for Beginners - Experiencing Materials: Taught by Yael Zahavy-Mittelman– Do art for beginnersyou enjoy art but never had a chance to try, or are you curious to change the medium you are using in your art? If there is an experimenter in you who would like to try new ideas or new mediums, this is the class for you. Learn how to look at art and to explore using a variety of materials & techniques. From oil pastels to chalk, pencils, markers or any other idea you want to try. No experience needed beyond your curiosity.
6 weeks, 1 session. Tuesdays 1/24-2/28. 1-3 pm. $125 supplies included.

Intro to Mixed Media: Taught by Becky Stromberg- Collage painting - Combine vintage mixed media classpapers & photographs with acrylic paint. Learn how to design and create depth and interest in your work using a variety of painting techniques & image transfer.
3 weeks, 2 sessions. Tuesdays 3/6-3/20, or Thursdays 3/8-3/22 10-12 pm. $90 plus supplies.

Instructor Bio: Becky Stromberg is a Seattle area artist who enjoys working in mixed media collage,     encaustic painting, and making jewelry. She has taught art workshops and both mixed media and encaustic collage at the Grunewald Guild, an artist’s retreat center near Leavenworth, WA.


Exploring Calligraphy: Taught by Kathryn Barker– This class will focus on the Italic Exploring CalligraphyHand, often considered the most versatile and beautiful of scripts. Demonstrations, historical examples, and individual attention will be emphasized as we learn this lovely script and discover its many uses. Projects and personal applications will round out the learning experience. 6 weeks, 1 session. Thursdays 1/19-2/23  10-12 pm. $160 plus supplies.

Instructor Bio: Kathryn Barker received a BFA and an MA from the University of Michigan with an major in studio art and education. For the past 25 years she has worked as a calligraphic artist and has taught in a number of institutions including the University of Washington, Bellevue Community College, Bellevue Parks and Recreation, and currently at Eastside Academy High School.


Beginning Watercolor: Taught by Paula Ensign– In this positive, friendly environment, watercolor classlearn basic watercolor techniques including making even washes, mixing colors and controlling water flow. Learn to compose a painting from photos or nature itself. Class begins with short demo, followed by plenty of time for practice and discussion.
6 weeks, 1 session. Mondays 1/30-3/5 10-12pm. $180 plus supplies

Instructor Bio: Paula Ensign,  award-winning  Signature member of the Northwest Watercolor Society, developed a passion for painting on location as a studio art major at Principia College. She paints full-time and teaches drawing, watercolor, and oil painting. Her paintings can be seen In Kirkland, Stanwood, regional plein air exhibitions and juried shows.


1 Day Workshops:

Ink and Watercolor: Taught by Paula Ensign- Learn basic techniques with ink pens to ink and watercolor classcreate effective drawings, then add splashes of watercolor to add pizzazz. Its fun and easy. No previous art experience required.

1 day workshop, Saturday  3/17. 1-4 pm. $50/session  plus supplies

Mat Cutting Workshop
Wednesday, March 28 - 6 to 8pm
Learn to cut your own mats!

cutterOur most popular workshop, Mat Cutting is back. If you want to learn how to cut mats for your artwork or photography now is the time! It is easy if you have the right equipment and a little instruction. Using Logan Matcutters 301S (shown), 450 and 750, we'll show you how to cut single, double and multiple opening mats. We will also show you how to cut custom mats for readymade frames.

Limit - 12 - Fee: $10 or free with purchase of a Logan matcutter. This is also a terrific way to "try before you buy". The $10 fee can be credited towards your matcutter purchase.
